Why do streetsmart people always have the upper hand?

My sister is kind of naive while her now ex boyfriend has always been streetsmart. He broke up after 3 years and already has a new girlfriend so fast. They already slept 2 days after the break-up.

Meanwhile my sister has been talking to a guy online and hasn't even gone out on a date yet. When they were together, from the beginning it always seen like he had the upperhand in practically everything; managing money, workplace experience, moving on from break-ups, finding dates so fast, making friends, providing, etc.

I'll be honest; when they were in a relationship... I always thought that if a break-up happens... my sister has a lot more to lose than him. Why do they always have the upper hand?

He’s an insecure jerk. Any guy that tries to have the upper hand just wants to feel better than the girl or like they won. My ex was like this he always had girls to go to if we broke up. If u truly love someone u can’t just be with someone else so fast, I was sooo manipulated that even when I left him it took me months to even talk to guys. I felt like I had to act loyal even when I was single. He could also be a narcissist. most normal people don’t operate like this, normal people don’t need to have the upper hand.

Knowing how the world works is a big advantage. I was 17 when I graduated high school and got a full time job in the city. I didn't have a car so I hitchhiked every day. I worked for a very small business so my boss taught me a lot of things about business and life in general. A year later I went off to college and it seemed like I was jut so much more aware of the world than the kids I went to school with.

Yeah that has a major advantage. My sister is stuck and obviously affected. Her social skills aren't that great and she can't follow prolonged conversations. Her boyfriend ex was really her first and now the process of starting all over seems new and scary to her.
