If a worthless small dog attacks your sweet big dog, would you still sue the owner?

My friend's dog happens to be a big, gentle APBT (Mickey is his name) that even befriends cats. It's been obviously trained and raised with love.

However, her neighbor has an aggressive, problematic worthless jack russell terrier. It barks at everyone but people ignore the issue because it's small. That small dog lunged into Mickey and bit him hard enough to leave a small mark, drawing a tiny bit of blood. Mickey backed away and didn't fight back. My friend is still just as upset. She wants to sue the owner. If that was your peaceful dog (with the patience of a saint), would you still sue?

That small dog got lucky my friend's pittie is sweet. Mickey could've easily killed that Jack Russell Terrier. The owner thinks my friend is overreacting.

I think she needs to get in contact with the neighbor and address the issue to the neighbor. See how the neighbor reacts and figure out a solution. If the neighbor and your friend can’t come to terms on a solution, then I would take action upon that. Just be careful, some incidents like this they may force the Jack Russell to be put down.

There were a couple other times, that Russell tried lunging at Mickey and the owner had to hold him. It has tried lunging at others walking past the house. If the owner doesn't hold it, then it would have lunge at someone. It seems to be out of control and untrained.

Well a lot of dogs would lunge at things if we didn't held it back. That's why we have this thing called a leash.

Do you even know how long the owner have had the dog?

If it's really a problem go record it and report it.

That is exactly the point. What if next time it's not an adult that can easily defend themselves against it but a 2-3 toddler it attacks?
That dog is behaving in the same exact way that if a big dog acted like that, then it would've been put down fast or taken away.

My friend's dog doesn't do any of that so no, not all dogs behave like that. I love all breeds. I just don't like the ones that are out of control, have little to zero training and the owner sucks in socializing it from the beginning.
I never said the Russell needs to be put down. I think the owner needs to be more responsible and take her dog to obedience classes.

Well me and a couple people think that out of control Russell is a pesky, annoying thing. If a big dog were to displayed those same aggressive behaviors (towards other dogs and people) that little dog has been showing then it would already placed in shelter or put down quickly.
