Do people ever mistake you being quiet / silent for being arrogant?

That happens a lot with me... Meeting new people.. acquaintances.. When friends introduce me to their other friends... one time someone actually flat out told me that... and just recently when I was in college.. I overheard two girls who usually sit close to me, talking about me and saying why doesn't he ever talk and they thought I'm sort of a douche lol... And then one day I made a nice gesture and their attitude changed 180 degrees and I think one of them was actually into me lol... Why is it so hard for people to embrace the " quiet one " and make silly assumptions lol...

yeah, I can feel you. Some students are even afraid of me, and they're my seniors. When I walk, they run away from me because they are scared of me (According to my aunt to is classmates with them). My aunt said it's because I looked scary, like... HOWWW? lol

I always have this poker face of mine every time, plus I'm a quiet person. I'm our class president, and with one look at them when they said something bad, they will stop saying it right away because they know I wouldn't allow such thing. I'm also a serious person, and being serious, most of them thought that I'm an arrogant person, but in fact, when you get to know me more, I'm actually a friendly person. I just don't smile a lot. That's why I'm practicing to smile so that people won't think that I'm judging them.

But being a silent person is great though... I enjoyed it.

Yeh... a lot of people in person... think if I am being queit at times... am either snobby or shy... it's only because I am thinking. I am a deep thinker as well.

Olden days threat detection in their mind. If you aren't like them, you are dangerous. Maybe a little bit the quiet serial killer stereotype though a lot of killers were charming talkers. Also wherever you live it is seen that men who don't talk much are weak or a douche as you say. You'd be big in Asia where you aren't supposed to talk so much. Because you mentioned girls, a lot of times they want you to talk to them so this is their way of childishly pressuring you to do it. I know what I said sounds fake at first and like I'm trying to make you feel good but I found it to be true. Sometimes they only want to gain attention, sometimes they like you. Me, I'm happy if a person I don't like doesn't talk to me, I don't have to come up with things to say around them.

Yup, that's happened to me before. People take notice of it and think you are stuck up because you don't talk to anyone or say anything, it gives off a sense of superiority to them.

That happened to me at my job. One guy flat out said after talking to me for a bit thought I was arrogant and stuck up because I never said anything. To which I said I just keep to myself when I have nothing to say and when I am at work, I am here to work and focus.

I think a lot of it boils down that they are mainly used to extroverted or animated people based on their friend group and anyone who doesn't fit their group that catches their eye stands out until they get a chance to talk with them.

All of my friends have told me that when they first saw me walking around, they all thought I was snobbish, but after getting to know me, they realize I'm not. I'm not sure what it is that makes them think that but apparently that's how I look. Lmao...

I hope not. I'm quiet when I first meet people because I don't want to say something that might offend them. And sometimes based on people's cold reaction to me sometimes I wonder if they don't like me or if they get the wrong impression that I'm a snob. Because nothing could be further from the truth.

Yeah, no one has ever said it to me but it’s been implied. I’m a lot better than I used to be but I’ve always been shy and I think people take it as rudeness

I am also a quiet person like you and I also experienced that. I didn't hear them say it but I sensed they think I'm a creep or arrogant but after I talk to them and make a nice move their attitude changes 180

Lol, I'm never quite. I make a conscious effort to not talk to much and never talk over people.  I'm constantly looking for an opportunity to make a joke.

When I was teenager I had a lot of peers think that I was stuck up, when in reality I was painfully shy.

Yeah my mom thinks I’m arrogant because because I don’t talk much. My friends know better though because I’m pretty easygoing
