Is it weird for me, a 10th grader, to be friends with someone in 7th?

Well a 10th grader/Sophomore is around 15-16 years-old, while a 7th grader is usually in the 12-13 age range.

It's not weird in the sense that you are being a friend by looking after these kids, and making sure they're not being bullied etc.
But I could never when I was a Sophomore formed a genuine friendship with someone that young; completely different mindset, world-outlook, likes and dislikes, as well as maturity levels.
Not to mention a 7th grader is in a totally different place, they're half-way through Middle-School, while a Sophomore is half-way through High-School!

A 2, 3-4 year age gap in maturity mindsets is massive with teenagers.
I'm at College now. Went later than most my age, and I'm one of the eldest in my first-year, College-Freshman classes. I struggle to have a good connection with my peers that are 18-19, as I'm pushing 21 and just have had different things going on to them from when I left High-School at 18 nearly 19.
I just don't have that late-adolescent mindset anymore, and am glad in a way that I outgrew all of the stupid stuff I said and did, as well as thought up.

As long as you stay strictly 'friends' and don't do anything inappropriate with a 7th grader, that's fine.
But perhaps you'd find a better connection with people more your own age group or a tad older?

No it's not weird nothing wrong with having a friend who's younger than you are. Some people might think it's weird and question it but who cares what other people think or say? As long as it's understood between the two of you that's all that matters. They probably look up to you like an older sister. I see nothing wrong with it.
