I mean everything nowadays are expensive…

I have 2 kids and pregnant with my third and apparently I spend less money on my kids than many other parents do (learnt this reading forums/facebook groups about what other parents kid-related expenses are and wow people spend a lot on their kids…) so yeah absolutely they can be very expensive but a lot of it is honestly up to how expensive you allow them to be (and where you live). You don’t have to make it as expensive as many claim it has to be.

I just read a statistic that on average per year, it takes about $13,500 to raise one child, and that's in a two parent household assuming you don't live in an expensive city, the parents are making above minimum wage, and not including things like private schools or extra curriculars that can add up quickly. So, it's not cheap.

I have 3 of them. I bet they cost me more than what I spent on my house. Between food and clothing and paying for sports equipment or toys. Sending them to college was the topping on the cake. It was very expensive. I would do it again.

I could be driving a really nice car with just the money I spent on braces.

First diapers and strollers. $
Then preschool. $$
Next came clothes and shoes every few months. $$$
Don't forget school projects and activities, sports, gear, gas, and birthday parties. $$$$
Then... College. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Depends on how the parents choose to raise their kids. They don't have to be expensive if the parents are smart with their money and don't spoil them. a lot of parents go out of their way to spoil and give their kids the best things in life (which isn't always necessary). So those parents probably think their kids are expensive.
