Guys who feel this way try to compensate for shortcomings with money. Or else find transaction gets them what they want without having to be attentive or caring.

Not hot enough to pull a hottest chick with your natural ability? Keep shopping til you find one you can buy! Don't want to listen to her talk? Keep shopping til you find a girl who only does what you want for money. The gold diggers are on the flipside of this, though, and equally flawed.

Girlfriends are insanely expensive! Even the ones that say they are inexpensive are expensive! Just because you go Dutch doesn't mean that you aren't still having to spend money. There are cute inexpensive or free dates, but they always want more. Don't get me wrong, I love being with a girl, but we're kidding ourselves if we don't think it has an impact on our economic situation.

I think it depends on the girl, different girls will expect different things. Then it also depends on the guy. I feel like girls might expect more from some guys while other guys can get away with doing very little.

I'm always spending more when I'm dating than when I'm single. I don't really mind it though. We go out and have fun, we enjoy life, and we can both afford it, so it's not a big deal.

Exactly. Dating is expensive on both sides, because you're typically doing more activities that you'll end up paying for, and both people should be footing the bill for that. But you should feel comfortable putting a limit on what you're willing to spend, so that dating doesn't cause financial problems for you. If you feel like that's not an option, then that's a problem.

and i agree every relationship needs to sort of realize when they are spending an adequate amount of money on dates and what not. you definitely shouldn't be growing broke dating

Well... a poll like this one is definitely going to exhibit "response bias". Like, the people who feel strongly enough to actually click the question and respond to it, overwhelmingly, are going to be those who feel that "fuuuuck girlfriends = $$$" (or £££ or whatever, lol).

Obviously most people with children don't regret having children, BUT, the people WHO ACTUALLY TAKE THE TIME TO RESPOND to "Do you regret having children?" will overwhelmingly be the ones who DO regret having them.

I'm studying psychology and with most research studies conducted involve volunteer sampling and it's an issue for validity, like here, bias sampling therefore inaccurate results and statistics like Ann Lander's study. When I was single, I was a fucking shopaholic beyond all redemption. There was work time, girlfriend time, me-time (= workouts, reading, chillaxin', and other misc self-improvement), and then... shopping.
As soon as I found myself in a relationship again... less shopping.

I don't think this is a thing as much with boys, BUT, I do know there are LOTS of boys who blow $$$$$ at the bar when they're single.
I mean... @beerfarts has said it's easy enough for him to spend $200/night as a single guy at a bar just buying rounds for his friends (not even for women), so, I'm sure he would spend a lot less money in a relationship.
And I'm sure there are other boys who do random expensive things when they're single, too?

And then there's the obvious obviousness, with moving in together, and having one rent and one set of bills instead of two.
