It's a privilege to have someone special in your life like that if you want to a romantic partner. It's also a privilege to be single when you don't want a relationship. Calling a girlfriend or significant other a "luxury" sounds like they are a product or commodity.

I’d never consider it a luxury to have someone in your life who chooses to be part of it every day , because it’s a “relationship” . Generally speaking , at the core of it , both parties WANT to be in for what it offers them. In my humble opinion , seeing a girlfriend as a luxury , carries with it the connotation that she has a greater value to you than vice versa , which is hardly the present promoted egalitarian view. I’m not saying relationships are always 50/50 clearly that’s up to the people in the relationship to navigate but starting with the belief or perception that she is “luxury” suggests that your less that , that by contrast you are you are the everyday saver budget offering against her premium. So in that sense I think your starting of with the cards stacked against you.


Relationship’s take work , sacrifice , compromise , patience , support , time etc etc so if anything an investment as ‘you reap what you sow’ to a certain extent.
