Is having a girlfriend expensive?

I'm a college student, and I am broke. As much as I would love to be in a real relationship with a girl at my college. I can't because I wouldn't be able to take her anywhere, no woman wants a man who is broke.

I pay my own way through school, plus I help my aunt with the bills around my house. So yeah even though I want a girlfriend, I'm too broke to have one. They can be expensive. Is having a girlfriend expensive? Should I still try to get one.

Hey, who needs a relationship to be 'real' by going to expensive places? I would rather go on an adventure, like wander along the river and carve my own trail, do things that allow me to have complete one-on-one contact and have tons of fun, no money involved! Are there any games you like to play? Videogames, card games, board games, pool, foosball, table tennis, air hockey, sports--any game--can be entertaining and not cost you a penny.

Save going out to dinner or a movie, or something she really likes, for special occasions.

When I have a boyfriend, I want to make memories with him. Am I going to remember a bunch of expensive dinners he took me to? No. Am I going to remember attending to countless films with him? No. Am I going to remember every gift he bought me? No. If those expenses are few and far between, however, I am likely to remember them and be more appreciative. But I would rather be off adventuring and just enjoying my time with him.

Remember that /you/ make the relationship count, not the cash. :)

Don't worry about not being able to play sports. Like I mentioned with all of the games, there are tons of other activities you can do. Find something to do that suits you and your special someone. c:

It's going to cost money on both ends. In my relationship, my boyfriend drives everywhere in order to save me money as I drive a F150 that has a V8 engine. It currently costs me $160 to fill up. Which I do twice a month. With a minimum wage salary. He is unemployed. His parents pay for everything for him. So I need my money more, as it were. I am splitting the cost of college with my parents. So I feel your pain.

When we go places that involve money, we each pay our own way.

There are many things you can do that cost nothing. Go to a park, go for a walk, go to the beach...be creative. Having no money really isn't a reason not to have a girlfriend. As long as you find a girl who is good with just hanging out and not going to operas and fancy dinners and whatnot.

I feel your pain I have a full time job and I pay for all my college because I do not qualify or financial aid. I don't have time for a boyfriend let alone money for one. I go to school and work full time. Don't worry the right girl will come along and be patient regardless if you have money or not! Good luck and my college is like 2 thousand a semester and I make 8 an hr plus car payment and cell. So yeah. I know what you're going through I just slammed 500 down on the dog. OK I'm done with my life story lol but just know you aren't the only one. I rejected amazing guys just because I don't have time

I pay my phone bill, school tuition, and bank loans as well. The women at my college are so attractive, sucks I can't be with them. You need money to date.

I don't do loans lol so no bank loans. But yeah I know.. Unless you're like me and cuddling on the couch with dinner at home serves the purpose well enough. It was nice of someone to down arrow me for probably no reason

Just as some dude said here, as long as she isn't there to take financial advantage of you everything should be good. I'm in the same situation myself, financially. Short on time and even shorter on cash.

I'm not experienced on it since I never had a girlfriend but I suppose you do need at least some money to spend around. I guess if you don't have somewhere around $50 to $100 of spending money left each month then that's some real trouble. Because obviously expensive restaurants are out of the question in your situation. However not being able to pay for a miserable cup of coffee or some movie tickets (don't forget condoms) that's just like the bare minimum.

That's not what I meant :) I was just saying - some little cash to do extra stuff. Spending hours in your home and then her home is just boring and I don't think it's something permissible for a health relationship. Just enough cash to go outside and do something else from time to time.

If things will really go serious with her and you'll get married and such, you'll be looking at those austerity days as something positive that made your relationship stronger not a deal breaker.

well it be too expensive to do traditional dating things such as going to restaurants or special events that require pricey tickets . that being said there is still a lot of stuff you can do that doesn't cost a lot of money . such as cooking a meal at home and eating it there , there is less expensive date options such as public parks / beaches that don't really cost a lot of money to visit , I mean I'm sure there is things you could do that wouldn't cost a lot of money but your not going to be able to afford to do things such as eating out at restaurants

No, it isn't and I don't see why guys have to pay all the time. There are girls who choose to go dutch. You need to find someone who doesn't take you for granted. I worked and studied part time, financed myself during my school years too so I understand it isn't easy.

that's not true. for first date you can pay for the girl don't have to bring her to a high class restaurant. sequently I do expect the girl to pay for herself. I really don't think it is fair to have on the expenses to be shouldered by guy.

I would gladly pay for a first date, because most likely I'm gonna have to ask the woman out. But I can't do it all the time, I have other expenses as well.

It will cost you some money, yeah.

You have to pay for dates or at least be willing to pay for dates. And girls care more about anniversaries and birthdays etc than guys generally do; so you won't be able to get away with not buying her gifts.

It'll also mean you have less time, which means lost earnings.

i think some people have a misconception of how relationships should be. You can do so many things for free. like going for long walks, chilling at each others house etc,. surely spending time with one and other is far more important than worrying about taking them out places where spending money is involved. I think you can save up as well to eventually take them out somewhere nice. you don't have to spend money all the time to have a good relationship.

Well it can be expensive, but it really depends on the girl. she might be fine with hanging out in your house or parties. Or she might want to go to the movies and dinners all the time. so you just have to find the right girl for you.

Doesn't have to be, my girlfriend didn't cost me anything, we didn't actually go anywhere, we just found quiet places to go and talk, cuddle, make out ect. Only cost of my whole relationship was half a bottle of water I shared with her and one drink when I went out with her and her friends to a bar once
