Before you call me a heartless parent let me explain. In Singapore raising a child is no longer meant for people with low or average income, as for me my salary is less than $1.5k, if I really want one child I had to marry a man who earns around $3k per month. That’s because I also have to pay $1k to hire a nanny to take care of the baby, if I were to marry a guy with the same income as me and have a child basically our lives will be very miserable because there won’t be enough money to raise a child. I also wouldn’t want my parents to raise my child since they already had a hard time raising me due to financial issues, no way will I want my parents to go through that again.

You should discuss it with your parents to see how they feel about the situation and if they’re willing to help.


Is your child already born or are you still pregnant?
If you’re still pregnant, you need to contact an adoption agency so they can try and find a family who wants a child, and so there is a plan for when you give birth. If your child is already born, still, contact an adoption agency and try to arrange something so your child will be adopted by parents who are able to care for your child.


Raising a child in a financially unstable home is difficult and can negatively affect the child in the long run, however, so can anything else, such as adoption. Will your child live a more happy and fulfilling life in someone else’s care? Think about that. No one wants to give their child up for adoption, but certain circumstances might lead to adoption being the best choice.


It is something that you need to decide what is best for you and your child.

I’m not pregnant yet but I have heard of horror stories of unplanned pregnancies in marriages. If I were to get pregnant I will have no choice but to give the child up for adoption.

Gotcha. Yeah, it is a very tricky situation, and I’d at least hope it’s avoidable, so it doesn’t have to come to that.
