Is it possible for you to know a guy/girl for a long time but still not know their name?

I did that with my wife. She has a very unusual name even by Japanese standards and one that has no Kanji to it. I forgot it at least 10 times. I remembered everything else about her though. I still remember the dress she wore the first time we met, the pink shirt when we went out together with our friends, the way she laughed and smiled... I just couldn't remember her name!

That's a running joke she has now with our friends is how many times I forgot her name and called her something else.

even with guy friends it was about 5 years before I found out my mate Dave was actually called Eric

A friend of mine is called KC, I used to assume this was Kacie or casey

even after knowing her years it only came up not long ago, as someone called her by her real name.

Yes it is. There are many batchmates I have seen from grade 4 yet I don't know their name till now. However when someone once tell me their name then I can easily remember it.

I do have acquaintances like that, yes... and there's also a few friends to my friends or brothers, and I only know them for their nicknames and not their actual names

Yes. I'm horrible with names haha I can remember faces but names forget it. Unless I say or see there name a lot I forget haha

I have known people at the gym for a long time. I usually say hello and sometimes have conversations with them. Both male andfemale. Some of them I do not know their names.

I was hanging out with this girl for almost a week. When I call her she answered. I didn't have to ask for her by name. When I picked her up we didn't call each other by name, we just hugged.
She was telling me a story about her mom and how "and my Mom said 'jennifer, if you do that...'"
I stopped her and asked "who's Jennifer?"
