What does it mean if someone asks you if you are okay?

What if someone asks that question in the middle of a conversation (whether it is by text or in person)? And what if that same person asks that question pretty often?

Does that necessarily mean that the person cares about you?

They probably care about you and this something about the way you’re acting that makes them concerned to keep asking
