Have you ever thought that your parents are better than you?

Many, many times I find myself thinking that.
My father received small shops and made an empire out of them - I'm not sure I'll manage to measure up to him.
My mother has no formal education and yet she knows more languages than me, is more intelligent than me, and beats me at every game we play.
Even when we went fishing, she catched more fishes than me.
Sometimes I feel I'll never manage to step out of their shadow.

My mother does not manage her mental health at all, was obese, couldn't hold a job, has no friends - she's not a healthy person in any sense.

My father is intelligent and well-meaning, but entirely too passive and under my mother's thumb. He cannot deal with confrontation and has withdrawn into himself because of his marriage to my mother.

My parents constantly wondered how I got so smart (I'm not) because they're poor students (my mother was, my dad did well).

I think I'm as successful as I am today because I had to weather the fucking storm growing up under them. I matured quickly and had to parent my own parents.
