When would you consider it to be a good time to get another cat?

One of my cats passed away on the 12th of June and ever since my other cat has been very needy. He’s been wanting loads of attention, following me around, wanting to get into my room (was my other cat’s go to space), he’s back to pouncing on my 10 year old chihuahua (my dog doesn’t have teeth and my cat only does it when he’s playful), meows are louder, whenever he’s in my room he is always in front of mirror (rolling around and such which he never did), he’s overall been acting more like my cat who passed away…

My mom and friends say to wait but I feel like I should opt for a new cat sooner rather than later.

We don't have a certain time to wait before getting another fur baby. When my dog died last year we had another dog 2 months later. It takes me a while to find a good dog to adopt. The year before that my wife's favorite cat died. We found a cat 2 weeks later that looked just like him, except he was a peradoctal.

Definitely sooner rather than later. Every cat needs a cat friend. DO NOT let your cats go outside!

None of my cats go outside unless they have a leash and harness which my remaining cat has no issue with. I also make sure my pets are up to date on their shots.

I think a new cat as soon as possible. Maybe see if you can experiment with a friend by borrowing a cat for two weeks to see if they get along with your cat. I read good pet breeders take back unwanted cats if you can’t accept your pet for some reason, like I know people who sent back dogs cause they were allergic and did not know they were allergic at the time the dog was purchased etc..

One of my cats was killed by a coyote and the other one witnessed it. He was a changed cat after that. He used to be really aloof but he suddenly got needy. He used ot sleep at the foot of our bed. My wife even bought a little rug for him to sleep on. We never got another cat and

I was thinking about getting a 1 year old cat or if I come across a stray maybe, it’s just I live with my grandma and it seems the only way I’m going to be able to get another cat is to either move out (which I can’t afford yet) or get one as an emotional support animal. I was really close to the cat who passed cuz he was really sweet and quiet. He got attached to me really quick as well.
