Yes, but them losing a lot of close ones wouldn't be the reason I would be friend with them.

We could become friends if we shared something, not because random person would approach me and suddenly said: "Hi I am XY and I lost a lot of close ones".

On the other hand if we already were friends I definitely wouldn't end friendship because of that.

Death is a unfortunate part of life, so I would most likely answer yes I would be friends with that person. However there could be a no to the friendship if there was criminal stuff involved, I’m to much of a chicken.
