Is a Cane Corso a great dog for a family and kids?

I once grew up with my uncle's male Cane Corso. I was 9 at the time and he was a puppy. He lived till age 13, which is 96 years old in human years. I have to admit he was a great friend but very protective towards us and babies/toddlers. He wasn't very trusting with strangers though. He would bark and came to us for approval, as if asking ''should I let this person in or not''. If we said yes and open the door, he was warm towards you. If not, just the barking was enough. Sometimes I still miss him.

In your opinion would you say a Cane Corso is a great dog breed for the family and kids?

I know that's not for everyone but for my uncle, a very assertive guy with leadership skills, it worked out for him.

I have a Cane Corso, and I have rescued Cane Corso's. They are big powerful dogs that need a lot of Socialization from the very beginning.
They are very loving and loyal dogs, and very powerful. They can easily knock a person over especially a small child without meaning to. My Cane Corso, Ernie, Sleeps in my bed every night, and he prefers to sleep with his head resting on my shoulder or curled up behind me with his head buried in my back. Ernie is my shadow.
I feel sad for a Cane Corso when the butcher their ears. There is no reason for this, except for fighting.
Cane Corso's have a layer of fat underneath their skin so care must be taken in the summer that they do not overheat. We had two Cane Corso's die from the heat last month, because they were chained up outside. They do love the winter though. My Ernie loves to frolic in the snow.

That's so sweet. Sometimes I still miss him. Once in a while, he still shows up in my dreams. In that dream, him and I are running around the fields, hanging out like we used to. Then I wake up and back to reality again.
It would be cool if our pets didn't have such a short lifespan and lived as long as us.

It all depends on the dogs personality.

My niece got 3 giant Pure Bred German Shepards that treat her like their packs puppy. And its hillarious to watch the little 6 year old go out with them as even police avoid her XD. As the dogs are like insta stranger danger detectors XD. It just depends on the dogs upbringing.

yeah, I feel dogs are similar to people.. each with its own unique personality. Even years after his death, I feel there will never be another him. Even if I were to raise a Cane Corso, it's going to be different than him.

Corsos are dogs that need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They make great dogs but they’re not for first time owners. They can be aggressive and are powerful breeds. I do think they’re gorgeous. If you do get one I recommend getting a trainer immediately and enrolling in sports

It's ok. I won't be getting another Cane Corso, too much feelings associated with the one we lost. He was unique to me and there won't ever be another him. I still miss him till this day.
I'll probably just get another breed like a yellow Lab.

That’s a good idea. For me I would love a Belgian Malinois but that is a LOT of dog. They have so much drive and I’m uncertain if I could provide the proper mental and physical stimulation he’d need. I may get one but I need to learn more about them and join a couple clubs for them and probably get to know a reputable breeder or two so I can see how their dogs are, what their goals are and if it would be a good fit. Right now I have a mutt that I love dearly but puppy fever is strong lol.

That dog is for hard work, and protecting some farm... If you want a dog for kids and babies buy a schnauzer or even better buy a Teddy bear.

Yes... I don't know how it worked out for my uncle and the rest of us. I know my uncle has always been an assertive, alpha type and like challenges. Somehow it worked out for him.

True. He was a sweet, gentle giant overall and only barked if it was a total stranger (ex: a bad or shady person) none of us approved or was simply protecting the property (he was naturally protective though.. it's like he didn't need to be taught that).
