i plan to get move out soon once i save up a decent amount of cash i have recently turned 18 and am curious what would be a nice dog breed for someone who is alone, decently active, kinda a couch potato and that would be well for a camper or apartment i have always had pitbulls growing up would they make a good camper dog or not i want something that can provide a watch/guard dog mentality but also be a nice companion
If you're familiar with pitbulls, considering your experience, they can be a suitable choice. It's essential to note that guard dogs are basically large dogs, bringing with them increased maintenance needs and space requirements. Pitbulls, known for their energy, may not be good in confined spaces, and may even be restricted in certain locations.
If you're seeking a dog with watch or guard dog qualities, active engagement with the pet is crucial. This recommendation goes beyond benefiting the dog, its also good for you.
In my view, a Mastiff could be a fitting option for you. These dogs are large and strong, with some requiring minimal grooming, having natural guardian instincts, and they are generally less high-energy compared to some other breeds. However, they can be sensitive to heat, and they hate small spaces.
I think you'd have to change your own lifestyle first to manage these bigger dogs all alone.

Pits are good but have weak footpads (feet are easily injured by rocks and sticks) and can't handle cold weather. If you're going to be in cold weather or walking through rough terrain then get a mountain dog
A Pitbull would be a good camper companion and guard dog. The Doberman is my favorite. German Shepherds are great dogs too but you have to walk them at least one hour per day or they’ll destroy the whole house out of boredom/excess energy.
keep in mind that having a dog in an apartment is hard (on you and them). you'll have to take them out a LOT
if in a camper, you won't have much trouble taking them out, BUT the camper is likely a LOT smaller than a regular apartment
