Is this a social media site?
I think that the vast majority of social media programs have very little to offer humanity, especially when I consider the cost-benefit ratio. I don't want to trade a bunch of my personal information for access to conversations, or broadcasted ideas from people I don't care about. I can speak to whom I wish over the phone, and I can meet people in other ways. I also do not wish to waste my time scrolling forever, looking at a digital picture album of other people's lives that I used to know.
It seems like a massive obituary to me. And it's a waste of server space, and the energy and materials needed to maintain said server racks.
On the positive end, we have been able to track some very interesting behavior, and predict the concentration of infections based upon social media data. So that's kind of a positive.00 Reply

They should teach classes about understanding the bigger picture. (Do they?) I know the curriculum is apparently already full, but this is important stuff. When I was in junior high one of my favourite classes was Consumer Education. We learned how not to get scammed and whatnot. The teacher was great, so entertaining, too. But nowadays, kids need to be taught about celebrity, comparisons and competition, the illusion that people put forward on social media, the highlights of their life. It's all a facade.

Yes, it is bad for them.
1. It exposes them to inappropriate content at a young age. (6th grade students watch porn now).
2. Liberals spread their lies and agenda to the young kids that don't even understand how to tell a lie from the truth in many occasions.
3. Social media promotes bad morals and behavior such as racism against Whites and Asians, promotes sexism against men, promotes hate and violence against Christians, Whites and Asians, promotes promiscuity, drugs, etc.

Having worked in schools for 12 years and knowing much of what happens on social media, the best thing you can do for your kids is take away their smart phone regardless of how much they complain. Get them a flip phone that only makes calls and has no internet access so they can talk to their real life friends only.
Many parents give their kids smart phones, but it is a bad idea. The kids also know to install apps then delete them before going home so their parents don't see it.

Social media is like giving everybody a mountain of cocaine and then being surprised when you end up with a bunch of drug addicts who neglect normal/healthy things in life or who do anti-social stuff. But we were told that the most important thing is how we feel and ourselves so I guess it's a natural development... as western society swirls around the drain. I wouldn't be surprised if western society collapsed within the next 10 years.
10 ReplySocial media can be dangers for people at any age. But it's even worse for kids. Simply because kids are far from mentality and emotionally developed. So the negative effects that social media can have on people are going to magnified and potentially do long term mental health damage at an early age.
There have been studies done both in the US and internationally that have shown social media can negatively effect a persons mental health and it's even more apparent in kids. So it's not really a coincidence that we have seen a huge uptick on people both young and old being diagnosed with mental health issues both during and after the rise of social media.
10 ReplyWithout proper guidance? Yes.
Parents should explain to their children what they see on social media are most likely the means - either it's the best, or the worse.
Example - not all people go and stay on vacations.
And parents should also note that not all they see are true. Not getting politically, but if they see ingredients being fed into a food grinder and comes out as a pizza - I mean... lol
Another thing is what they see is only a fraction of reality. Unlike books, newspapers, social media only shows you what you want to see. You join a group, ofcourse most people on that group will have the same idea.
An example, if you join a group for flat earth - of course everything there will point that the earth, is flat.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 ySocial media is about the biggest social experiment that humans have collective embarked upon. It's still so new the world hasn't caught up yet so it's difficult to have an informed opinion.
I have one anyway of course and my view is that in its current form it encourages bad behaviour and the stories of misuse with children and teenagers in particular is not at all good. Quite happy my kids are not interested.
I wonder what attracts so many to your kids and ultimately what message it gives them. Perhaps it reflects well on you and your life. Live and let live, and all that...

+1 yIts a funny thing as it is in the hands of the kids to use it as a good thing or as a bad thing.
But practically speaking, kids honestly do not know what is good or bad for them. Hence we need to do that filtration for them, at least for now.
00 Reply609 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Nope. There are many reasons why it's not, if one's smart they will realise this and outweighs any issues like cyber bullying or whatever argument one wants to come up with for why it's just bad.
You'll find many people will just say it is bad without much thought to it.00 Reply
+1 yToo much of anything can be bad. Anything done too young can be bad. Anything without proper guides and instructions can be bad.
Social media can be good if told where it's normal to be at certain ages, if told what is acceptable and safe to tell and believe there, and if boundaries are set on how much time you can spend there.
Most parents do only some of these things or none of them to their children. Most adults know some or none of these things about social media.00 ReplyThis video says it all in 2 minutes:

You go to a middle school that allows phones at breaks, all you see is everyone on their phones. Thats social suicide.10 ReplyNo its not but restricting their sites is a good idea leave the restriction after 13 . Tbh u can't stop kids if they dont know their freinds will tell. So yep. But u can slightky reatrict it at home. After some time remove the restriction when u realise they are mature enough.
00 ReplyYes. Itās bad fir everyone but kids need live people to interact with, social media is a drug, proven addictive. If you want well adjusted kids, throw the pc out the window and take away the smart phones.
10 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Without a doubt. It allows adults to contact them who otherwise wouldn't be able to, it increases young people's insecurities and distracts them from being a kid.
