Is there a way of redeeming myself if I made an insensitive comment with a vegan friend & said whale meat tastes nice?

I had tried it when I was younger as I was encouraged to by my parents. When I said whale meat tastes nice, she said oh dear and said she’s disappointed that I know that.

Apologise for the insensitive comment but don’t try to justify it by saying you were younger and encouraged by parents

Explain that it actually did taste good. Humans spend a good time in evolutionary history eating meat. It is natural human instinct to enjoy the taste of meat... as well as some plants.
