Why even ask if you're overweight if you don't like the answer?

This is a scenario of asking a friend, a relative or your partner if you're a bit overweight.

Ideal, expected answer: No, you're not. You look perfect.

The person gets happy and continues eating junk food, not exercising and not improving.

Realistic answer: A bit. You might want to work on doing more exercise and eating more vegetables.

The person is upset you said the truth and answered their question, even though the reply makes sense.

So why bother asking if you won't like it if they don't give the answer you expected?

By advicing them to do exercise and eat healthy foods, you're telling me how they would look better. It would be for their own good vs lying to them that they look great and letting them continue with their unhealthy lifestyle.
