My friend accused me of being jealous of her. What should I do?

I love my best friend to bits and we've been friends for ages, but she recently accused me of being "jealous" out of nowhere. She told me I'm "beautiful" so I said she's "beautiful inside and out". I was trying to be nice and giving her a compliment back, but she then said "why do you always have to one-up me? Are you jealous of me?" I've never had jealous feelings towards her and I feel a bit hurt by that accusation.

Is it possible that this is just a misunderstanding? Did I say something wrong? She puts me down sometimes but I haven't brought that up, and then she accused me of being jealous. How do I fix this?

Sounds like she is projecting onto you. You say you feel she puts you down. Can you give examples? Maybe she's actually the jealous one and is accusing you of it. Her reaction to that comment you gave sounds like an overreaction.

She said I look bad in photos when I smile, and "Are you sure your boyfriend doesn't just like you because he likes Asians." Maybe I'm overthinking it though. She also comments on my height a lot and points out the differences between our bodies.

Yep, unless there are other things u said to her apart from that, that can be construed as one-upping, I feel that she is projecting onto you. Because those comments are not nice. She's the jealous one and doesn't want to admit it probably.

That's what I thought- I was taken aback so I asked other friends and they said there was nothing wrong with what I said. Obviously I'll apologise to her but I feel a bit hurt by the jealousy accusation.

How is that competing though, I don't get it. I was literally giving her a compliment and trying to make her feel good. I wasn't being like "I'm more beautiful than you" lol
