Yes you can betray anyone. It doesn’t have to be a close friend or family. One example is betraying your country. Betrayal is quite simply the violation of someone’s trust and confidence. If an acquaintance tells you something in confidence and you tell it to someone else, that’s betrayal. If you entered into a business contract with someone you’ve recently been introduced to (but you don’t consider your friend) and you use loopholes to screw over the other person, that would be in violation of the spirit of the contract which would also be construed as betrayal.
