How can I make sure politics doesn't ruin Thanksgiving?

There are only a few hours left before everyone gets here. This will be only the second time they are at my house not my parents place. My husband and I are very nervous that everything goes well including the food but also the discussions. We have political relatives on both sides of the family and they are of all kinds of different political opinions. My husband and I are not political and don't really want a bunch of arguments and disputes. It has happened in the past and I am afraid it will happen today. How can I make sure things go smoothly and avoid the topics of Trump, Biden, and all the rest of that garbage?

Beyond a certain point, you can't- but you CAN introduce other topics that will steer the conversation towards other waters. Hopefully more pleasant ones, but if need be, just more distracting ones. It's not something to break out unless milder measures have failed, but a sudden exclamation of "My hero is the guy who killed Hitler!" is pretty much guaranteed to bring a runaway conversation line to a screeching halt.
