Do you expect tension politically at the Thanksgiving Dinner and how will you handle it?

Question

Thanksgiving is a time when Indians (Natives) and religious escapees from Europe (Protestant Europeans) came together in the new world... to eat... as they had survived and apparently decided, it was better to make peace. A Noble idea!

Eating is the way to make peace in case you don't know. Everyone likes to eat and it can create bonding and happiness... as long as the food tastes good.

But this year, the politics have shall we say... may have...ruffled some feathers? Political nerves may be exposed with just a simple quip of the lip. Some may choose to celebrate alone, volunteer or be with others of similar political views, not necessarily family. I wonder...

What's your expectations?

I think it's probably a good idea to have a no politics rule at the Thanksgiving table at least if not for the entire Thanksgiving get together.

I have a sibling that agrees with me on virtually every political point, but still makes an argument out of every discussion. I can only attribute it to sibling rivalry.

So I think proper etiquette on Thanksgiving is to take a day off from political discourse, although I must admit for me that is an extreme challenge. I'm tuned into politics daily as it is a topic of great interest to me.

But I could certainly make that sacrifice for peace at the Thanksgiving get together.

Literally I don’t care about politics when it comes to Thanksgiving, let’s help each other cook this family traditional meal and if you want to get into heated discussions lemme stuff your mouth so we can shut the f* up and move on.

I’m thankful for my girlfriend, my job, and my family’s support through & through.

p. s. I mean all political discussion, I don’t care if you agree with me on stuff or not I don’t want politics at the Thanksgiving table lol.

i'm just not gonna talk about politics. and if someone else starts the topic i'm just not gonna participate. political discussions always end in arguments. i wouldn't want that for thanks giving. i don't need to speak my political convictions at all times. there's a time and a place for that and Thanksgiving dinner isn't it.
