I accidently called my friend fat. What do I do?

I think I accidentally implied my friend was fat by offering her a dress that was too big for me. I texted her a picture and said, "Hi I bought this dress a while ago and it didn't fit me... and I missed the return date. Would you like it? It is a size small." She came over with few other friends to use the gym and came into my room to look at the dress. I don't even know what size she is but she is curvier than me and definitely NOT fat.

So as she was looking at the dress I said, "It was big on me and stretchy in the back so I thought it might fit you." Looking back I feel like this was mega rude. She tries on the dress and it fits everywhere except the butt because she has curves. So we offer it to friend #2 who was also present. Friend #2 seemed like my size so I worried it would be big on her as well, but it fit so she took it.

After thinking about this exchange I feel terrible. I really thought the dress would fit friend #1 and since she had a wedding to attend in a month I thought maybe she would want a free dress.

Should I apologize or would that just make things worse?
