My parents are a new york society family. They are constantly indulging in luxury. I'm sick of it. They spend money unnecessarily and their lives are very orderly. They spend so much unnecessary money, for example, we have a summer house in California. they bought it in a bel air location 2 years ago for $10 million. Mom is now planning to buy another summer house in Italy. personally, I don't like spending time with my family, they're always talking about money. my mother and I have a very different understanding of luxury. what should I do? Don't start a war about home about their lifestyle or how shallow they are because it's simply not worth it. Put up with it and take the inheritance, then do what you want. In the mean time, do what you want anyway. Pretend you're an actress in a movie, making believe that you are the good little girl. You don't have to agree with them, you can find ways to avoid spending time with them without creating havoc. You're smart, you'll figure it out. But it's just not worth blowing the whole thing up.

Not to be rude but your parents need to make a budget plan. They way your parents spend money is the key to end up in bankruptcy. This is a serious issue. Just because your parents need to learn how to budget plan. A good friends of mine from Utah they're wealthy but because my friend is knows how to budget plan and she is very frugal. Looks like a value mismatch with your parents. I would focus on having your own group of friends, volunteering in social causes, etc to meet people with your values. When you spend more time with people with your own values, you will feel better. You can't really change your parents as we don't choose family. You can tell them you want to live differently and see if in time they see your point.

I think your only option is to realize it’s their money and they can do with it as they please. Which is fair. It is theirs after all and they did earn their money. Though you disapprove of how they use it. Rapacious self indulgence is nauseating to me too.

For many they will face judgment, which would include those whose only desire in life was to spend their money and time mainly in the vain pursuit of pampering themselves and did nothing more with their lives of any value.

What do you usually like to do? Find nice activities you enjoy and don't involve them, I was never rich but always found most rich people discusting myself so I get it how it may affect you.
