Am I being pathetic?

I've been working for a commercial cleaning company for the past year. I hate it. Its not particularlyhard work. I mostly hate it. I only work 3 hour shifts. I just hate it because I have to interact with people. It's so draining. I'm sitting here trying to play video games, but I can't really enjoy them, because I know I'm gonna have to go to work in a little over an hour, and I have a pit in my stomach.

Pathetic is not the way to look at it. You're shooting yourself in the foot.

It's a very difficult concept to convey, people always use basic sayings like "it'll be fine" or "just keep at it", but that feels like just rolling the dice.

The literal technical problem I see is that being stuck in a negative mindset prevents you from seeing options and enjoying your time. There are always options, but your brain simply is blind to them. It's almost like a whole different mode of operation.

I'm not saying that it's bad to feel upset or complain or dwell on how disappointed you are with life. I am saying, you need to at least be aware of the biological fact of stress of all kinds and it's effects on the body and ones overall life.

I am not saying that you're choosing to be unhappy, or that happiness is a choice, people who say that are assholes. I am just saying that the human brain is very flexible if you can find out how to break the pattern of being upset all the time, you have the capacity as a human to redirect your brain at will.

You can notice your distaste, and move on. You will forget, it will stick with you, you won't know what else matters, it'll feel pointless, but eventually, you train yourself to remain focused on possibilities and things you want.

It's less about "sucking it up" and more about just trying to accept things as they are so your brain has more power to improve your life.

Either find a job testing games out, create a game, or find a more entertaining job for you. Most jobs are at least 5-8 hour shifts though, and if you are so lazy you can barely handle 3 hours…

Him talking about how draining it is to deal with his job and and being unable to enjoy video games because he has work well into the future suggests anxiety and depression, excessive dwelling on things that ruin the bit of fun he clings to.

Depression and anxiety can very very very easily look like laziness when you come from a judgmental background.

I am aware of what depression looks like, thank you. I am also aware of the differences between laziness and depression. I am also aware that both things can coincide with one another. You can be depressed, and also be lazy. I guess it’s easy to make assumptions though when you come from a judgmental background :/

Unless you're particularly entrepreneurial, I think it helps to warp the thinking patterns. This is your job. You get paid. Bring it. This is how you climb up the ladder.
