I did not get that at your age. yes and no. they should be using language to prepare you to feel like you are in charge, because you will be and you should be taking responsibility... giving you more and more room.

But you'll always be a little girl to the parents and grandparents, even when you are 40.

Child is wrong though. maybe you are very immature or not taking responsibility... or maybe you are being abused. That is kinda abusive...

Depending on the circumstances it's pretty common. It's usually done to call someone out for acting like a child (which they almost never agree with).
