Would you have more kids if you could hire a surrogate?

My friend knows somebody who hired a surrogate to have their baby and the child was so traumatized at being separated from his / her biological mother, the child refused to eat and required food to be injected into her / her body through a tube to avoid starvation because the baby would rather starve than be separated from the woman who carried him / her in the stomach for 9 months, but other surrogate babies appeared to be perfectly happy with their new moms. My cousin’s cousin had a surrogate baby when she was 32.

I don't get why you have to use the PC pronouns... but anyway, why the hell would there be a surrogate involved? I'd simply get my wife pregnant again if both of us wanted more kids. If only I wanted more kids and there was that kind of money for a surrogate mother, why would I bother with having a kid with someone else and not knocking them up? I mean, if she wants more kids she'd just need to stop taking birth control. Men have very little say there aside from a vasectomy.

That's such a silly idea to me though. The laws in most states and contracts will make you pay child support to a surrogate mother even if they keep the child anyway, unless an entire country protects your rights in that instance, the "pre-birth states" which are pretty much just NY and California if memory serves right, same ones where sperm can be donated without any liability.

I get it from the point of view of being a carrier, and the desire of an infertile mother. Where I get completely lost is what the guy gets out of it.

What are the laws in the Canadian provinces for sperm donors and surrogacy?
