Why does my friend’s 2015 Chrysler 300 have more problems than my 1999 Toyota Camry with more miles than his?

2015 Chrysler 300 with 145k miles and it’s always in the repair shop.
1999 Toyota Camry with 204k miles and I don’t even take care of it. It never breaks down lol.

It’s funny because he actually takes care of his car. He washes it and changes the oil every 3k miles but something is always happening. Now it’s overheating and something major happened to the engine.

Better build quality. Better parts. Better design. Back home the older Toyota Corolla & Aventis &Yaris are very popular for their reliability, ease of maintenance and availability of cheap parts. My father swears by them and they are widely sought out by taxi drivers.

You can buy Chrysler, Dodge GM, Chevorlet, Proton and others but they are extremely rare mostly because they are overpriced and have reputations as shit boxes. Ford is basically the only American car brand in the UK & Ireland but they are more designed and built with for the domestic UK market. I used to have a used Ford fiesta, I loved it as it was only 3 years old an was cute but it gave me a lot of trouble, silly things went wrong with it like the rubber seals on the doors and windows falling off. GM owns Vauxhall/Opel and they do the same as Ford building domestically produced cars for the uk market using GM parts, also terrible built cars, my brother had a vauxhall Astra and he was always changing the gear box, then the clutch, then the starter motor

If I'm buying a car I now living in the US will always go for something German, Japanese or Korea over an American brand. I have a yaris now.

The newer things are, the more electronics they try to pack in to pretty much whatever. It doesn't matter if it's a car or a washing machine. The simpler something is, the more reliable it will be. You'll buy 2 or 3 top of the line refrigerators with all the features in the same time you'd buy some low in fridge/freezer without an ice maker. Same shit happens with cars. Get some basic budget commuter with no bells or whistles and it will last for 200K miles with regular maintenance, but something newer or more luxury oriented with have a shit storm of electronic issues. I've seen so many crazy software bugs in cars from Mercedes-Benz... Shit is scary seeing the malfunctions... Same goes for self driving electric cars that all the sudden go out of control hit a wall and explode into flames catching buildings on fire. Simple lasts...

Some cars are rushed to market with "improvements" that were not really tested well. Case in point: My first car was a 2012 Ford Focus with an automatic-shifting 6 speed manual transmission. It was great when it worked, but half the time it sounded like it was driven by a rookie who couldn't find the right gear and keep grinding it. Ditched it by 2015.
