Cats are great judges of character.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yNot a cat owner, but my best friend had this old cat. She warned me when I went to visit her new house that this cat would probably hiss at me and not want to be petted by me because he did this to her husband all the time. So when I got there I just sat on the couch and didn't pay it attention even as it glared at me, but after about 15 minutes, it came over and stepped over me multiple times, then came to rest in my lap and let me pet him. My friend was in shock. Well, her husband is now her ex, and I'm still her friend, soooo....LOL

I am allergic to cats or I guess I was some people at the house next door to me and they moved in and they had a cat and the next day the cat was in my house I have a little doggie door that I've never ever put the sliding door back into it anyway every single day I would take that cat back to the owner and every day I get home from work that cat would be in my house laying on my couch as if it was her couch and I guess we came to an agreement that I would keep the cat because the cat was never going back home it was always coming back to my house

Our two cats don't trust anyone but us. They hide when people come over. LOL It even took them a few days to accept us.
I've known lots of cats who are more curious, though. And some will seek attention from anyone. Some will even gravitate more to people who don't like cats and rub against them or try to sit on their laps.
I love cats. They all have different personalities.02 Reply- +1 y
You'd trust a person your cats suddenly took a liking to then huh?

+1 yI disagree with that. I’m not a cat owner nor cat lover but i’ve dated cat men and they often said their cats were territorial and would act harsh towards company, mainly female company because they knew their owner would be distracted from giving them attention. Some husky owners said the same. Either way, i’m glad the guys didn't “listen” to these pets

+1 yCats and women have a little in common with each other. A cat has to take their time to decide if a stranger is a threat or not. Once a cat has seen you are not a threat; then it will jump up in your lap.
Dogs and men have a little in common with each other. Most dogs that have been treated right by humans will run straight for you wanting your love and attention without hesitation. Now, if you kick that same dog; he doesn’t want anything to do with you and then will move on to someone that isn’t a dog hater.
Even a tame cat is still a little feral. They don’t need us humans to survive. Just like any other wild animal will keep their distance. But because cats have been domesticated it doesn’t take long for them to warm up to humans.
However, if humans never interact with a new born kitten; that kitten will grow to be completely feral.00 ReplyCats generally don't like anyone except the person they've become really attached to, my sister's cat being a good example of this. The cat likes me - a lot - but not her. Dogs are better judges of character, and I say this as someone who actually prefers cats.

Sounds like a cat that wasn't socialized well honestly. Every cat I've had loves people in general. Would try get out to say hi to delivery drivers.

+1 yWe trust our pets.
If our cat, our dogs, our birds, our rats (Yes, you read that right!) and our spiders acted strangely in the presence of a visitor they don't like, that means they have a bad vibe about that individual.
10 Reply I think any woman that bases who she hangs out with around her cat is a walking red flag.
Get a dog like an adult lol.
Cats seem to like me, and I don't really like most of them. So is that them being a good judge of my character? I'd say they are bad at judging if people want to pet them or not.
Hard to say. I'd say I'm kind of an asshole to most people except the ones I care about.
10 ReplyYes, I agree. If its actual dislike be super careful around that person and dont tell anyone there were no signs. Be careful not to interpret: "I dont think you are important so I am just going to ignore you" from your cat, as a dislike though.

+1 yIt’s so funny. My cat (male cat) hated all my boyfriends I had during school. Bit them even after I warned them to not pet him. But then I had a guy friend who was gay and my cat loved him and would sit by him on the couch. He didn’t like guys he perceived as a threat, cuz he wanted me to himself 😂

+1 yYes, though that alone wouldn’t be a dealbreaker. I remember my mom telling me that the cats she had before I was born hated my father. I won’t disclose all the details about their marriage or my mom’s divorce but the cats ended up being right. Short answer as why: he turned out to be an abusive deadbeat.

+1 ythey judge sub conscious intent.
but as well, can be possessive of their owner. your cat may not like any male coming around... to take their perceived... mate.
some cats are weird because their owners are weird... consider that as well:)
00 Reply More of a dog person but I lean towards yes. Most of the time when someone turns out bad for you, pets did not like them. Of course there may be a confirmation bias.
I trust a dog, nor sure about a cat, to have my best interest at heart. And will at the very least think twice if a pet dislikes someone.00 Reply307 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. My cat likes everybody. He can be upstairs having a nap and hears the footsteps of a friend and he'll belt downstairs to greet them at the door.
He has unreservedly shown liking for everybody who has come inside my apartment including the tradies.
So he doesn't show much discernment.

+1 yOdds are high for the cat's instinct to be worth being taken into account. On the other hand, a cat doesn't like people gesticulating wildly and talking very loud. Some good people are like that, and the cat's reaction is the result of too much noise and wild movements.
00 Reply- 430 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yNo. Cats are naturally wary of people and it's more likely they just smell a dog on you. Dogs being pack animals are much better at reading little signs a person can't be trusted.
20 Reply Nah. Cats are often jealous animals and they will hate on a human being if they feel like the human being is replacing them in theory. I went over a guys house before and his female cat did that to me , meanwhile his parents cat and dog adored me.

+1 yI would say yes... But my cat is a needy, social dumbass who let me abusive mother pet him.
He doesn't know good from bad, wall from no wall. He is big dumb.00 Reply492 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. I like birds. Hummingbirds are wonderful to watch. But cats try to sneak up on every bird and kill them. Dogs don't, so I prefer dogs.

That isn't a cats fault its peoples fault. I keep my cats in doors
- +1 y
You can still take them outside. I took my cats on walks just like you would a dog
+1 yMy cat doesn't like anyone else, so no I don't agree. I wonder how many women have passed up suitable men who would have been good husbands to them and will end up dying alone because their dog or cat didn't like them.

10 Reply326 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. if my cat liked anyone i would be worried about my cat
00 Reply502 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. My oldest cat is scared of everyone but me pretty much but my youngest cat would be a better judge. If she doesn't like someone then they probably give off really bad vibes for her.

+1 yCats have horrible character themselves. They are the worst of domestic animals and yes I’m involving snakes and spiders in that
05 Reply- +1 y
I'm just going to assume you've never owned a properly socialized cat
- +1 y
Probably not. Never owned one. My cousin did. That cat would bite and attack me for no reason. At all. I would just come and chill at there house, it would attack. A dog never does that lol
- +1 y
Dogs absolutely do that. People just don't understand cats body languages. There is ALWAYS signs that they're going to attack or that they feel comfortable. A properly socialized cat also doesn't attack for what you would consider no reason.
- +1 y
I mean I consider walking into the house and literally sitting in their couch 3 seconds after coming on… no reason. Had never seen the cat before. So yeah they do attack for no reason.
- +1 y
I'm not saying you're the issue. The cat probably has issues elsewhere, which causes it to be scared when other people are around.
Oliver would run and hide at first, but would warm up to you.

10 ReplyNo, some cats like people and some cats don’t, my cat Luna doesn’t go to anyone but me
05 Reply- +1 y
But if she went to someone else you would think that person is very special right?
- +1 y
No I actually get kinda jelly, but cats are very odd creatures they have lots of different types of personalities, I had two cats I used to have three, the one that passed used to go to everyone and get pet from everyone, there wasn’t a person she didn’t like my second one Luna usually goes to only me but she warmed up to one of my new roommates then my third cat mittens usually doesn’t go to anyone
- +1 y
I've only experienced very needy loving cats. All of my cats have been that way.

06 Reply- +1 y
I absolutely mean it. My cats growing up hateed the people who turned out to be shitty friends/ relationships.
Opinion Owner+1 yDo you think those people emit some sort of pheromone that the cat picks up on that tells the cat they're bad people?
- +1 y
No, it's all about their actions
Opinion Owner+1 yLike what sort of actions?
- +1 y
Cats pick up on body language a lot more than we do.
