Why do moms insist on telling everyone when their daughter has her first period?

I do not have a daughter but I remember when I had my first period ever as a teenager and my mom told everyone in our family. I felt so embarrassed and thought it was completely unnecessary to tell everyone details of my personal life to others. I don't think I would do such thing to my daughter when I have one. Later in life I realized that most moms if not all did the same to my girlfriends. Do you agree with this or not?

Thats why why I told my dad about my period first. He didn't say anything to anyone for literally almost a year later. My mom was soo pissed I hid that from her but i was to embarrassed cause I didn't want her telling all of our family.

And nah with my kids I will not be sharing any details about them going through puberty to family/friends since its personal.

My wife's sister brought up first periods when we were all out camping, and my mother in law retold the stories of both my wife and her sister's first periods. They were both mortified.

I agree with you, that is something that should be private. I can see why you would be embarrassed.

I just think is so wrong. I know my mom had her best intentions and she's the sweetest but just wasn't aware this wasn't the right thing to do.

Sounds like she was super proud that her little one had become a woman.

I mean she was. I believe it can from a good place in her heart but also disregarded how I was feeling in my opinion.
