I think that starting at age 12-13 to have a meeting with parents, surgeon, Principal and attorney every year until age 20 to see if you still want the surgery to change from boy to girl or girl to boy. And all of you will sign to agree to the surgery or disagree.

I felt so bad for that girl because she knew she had second thoughts and it was too late.

Children SHOULDN'T be making life altering decisions!! And, as in this case, doctors SURE AS FUCK SHOULDN'T be catering to their whims!! Where I am, there's a place near here where trans people gr for years to see someone about their potential for getting a sex change!! It is up to them to decide if each of these potential trans people actually SHOULD get a sex change!! ONLY AFTER they get their papers saying they've been thoroughly evaluated and found to be in dire need of a sex change, are they allowed to set up the surgeries needed! In as such, I can say with almost 100% certainty that these people would NOT give the okay to a 12-year old child!! I SERIOUSLY doubt they'd even CONSIDER a sex change for that kid `til they're at LEAST 18, if not 21!!

I think it´s ok to be remorseful and sorry at her part she´s 13 but I would question the parents or surgeon if they really did all in their power to help her and not let her go astray in something she might have wanted without realising the consequences.
There´s a reason why minors are prohibited from having tattoos for instance or similar. To me that´s rather a sign that transition surgery isn´t the best way to go at such a young age because the risks are high and also the taking it back by having an implant involve risks for health.

Well, good news is she can wear prosthetics or get another gender affirming surgery like breast implants.

I think this is why access to things like puberty blockers is better. Instead of an invasive surgery, she could have delayed the growth of her breasts. Then, she would come off the blockers if she found herself dysphoric.

However, a single case of someone not being happy with her transition is hardly reason to block the thousands of transkids accessible gender affirming care will save.

Kids shouldn't want to kill themselves, and it shouldn't be a radical opinion to not want kids to feel like suicide is their only way.

Access to gender affirming treatments - not just surgeries, but binding and less invasive horomone treatments - saves lives.

One poorly managed case, or a few folks with regrets and an ability to still accomodate further affirming procedures, does not support barring access for all.
