Why do I feel like I’m walking on egg shells with some people?

Question

I feel like I can’t say anything I just asked my friend what they thought of their order picking job and he seemed offended and said “no I don’t want to talk about it” and he kept randomly saying white jokes I’m not sure where this came from as I’m not racist or judgmental

Narcissists usually make you feel like this. You have to watch what you say, what moves you make, how you act, and everything in between. I lived with someone like that last year, an aunt, and I am not kidding when I say this.

I had to watch what I said around her, could only go to certain rooms of the house, could only eat when she wasn't around, got screamed at if she saw me going through my own belongings, I couldn't have any friends over, I wasn't allowed to use the stove, when I vacuumed or did the dishes, I had to wait until she wasn't around or she would snap at me, I could keep going but there is so much more! To top it off, I ended up with diabetes and almost died from dehydration and malnourishment.

If your friend is making you feel like you have to watch your every move, they may be narcissistic. The only thing you can really do is put up with it. You can't change these people, they will always treat you like garbage.

I'm sorry this happened to you. When people make you feel like you're walking on egg shells, this is why though. It's sad that you have to watch what YOU say. I'm sure you've been friends with this person for a long time because it obviously hurt you, but this person is not a good friend at all. You could ask him why he snapped at you, but if he's like this often, you probably can't even do that without getting your head bit off.

Cuz sadly most people in today’s world are selfish assholes that only really care about themselves , you will eventually get to a point in life that you will realize most people are selfish assholes that only really care about themselves , to the point you will no longer bend over backwards for someone unless they can prove that they are a genuine nice person , sadly it’s hard to find these days , I blame social media for a lot of it , I feel social media played a big part on damaging people’s mindsets to the point no one can fully trust each other anymore , All we can do is treat someone the same way we want to be treated in return , if they choose not to treat you the same way you treat them it’s best for you just to walk away and not waste anymore of your time and energy on someone that can’t treat you the same way in return. I realized my life is better by being content and only keeping the positive people in my life close to me , all the negative people I kick to the curb

There are some egg-shell people and I try to stay away from them as much as I can. OTOH there are some who don't have very good social sensitivity and end up offending people.

If you just occasionally run into egg-shell people, the problem is them. But if this happens a lot think about whether some if the issue could be you

Yeah, you feel like you're walking on eggshells probably because you are. Some people put on this tuff act, but they are so damn sensitive they'll want to fight over some bullshit. You can't win with those people unless you have all the power and you can make them subordinate to you. Not worth the effort in my opinion. Personally, I just distance myself from them if that's possible.
