Did you have any 4th of July traditions as a kid?

When I was little we had family friends that we’d always a go to a big bbq at their house every year. It was always really good food and they had a fun pool with a diving board. it’s weird to think about now cuz both of the parents of the family have since passed away and i think their kids are now old enough to be grandparents.

When I was real little, our family would go park at a football stadium and my sister and I would lie on a blanket on the roof of the car to watch the fireworks display.

As a kid, we would set off fireworks in the street in front of our house. Other neighbors did the same thing.

But we also lived near Long Beach, Ca and used to go to the beach to set off fireworks on the strand below the bluffs along with thousands of other people. The beach would be packed.

When I was younger i had a female friend and we had a tradition. Every 4th of July we would go to a certain beach. It was sort of like our special place. She went to grad school in DC and I never saw her again.

My uncle's birthday is today, so growing up, 4th of July was usually a double celebration. We'd have the birthday party for him and then light fireworks once it got dark outside. Sometimes I miss those days. 😭
