What are your Easter traditions where you live, and how did you celebrate as a child?

We have traditional events for families. Boiled eggs in yellow - red - violet- green - blue - rose or any color is hidden and children try to search amd find them. Chocolate eggs and Easter bunnies as well.

When I was a child I got a little surprise. One time it was an umbrella. Or cassette with the little Witch Bibi Blocksberg. I really liked it to listen to. Only a small thing around 5 - 7 Deutsche Mark. Today it would be around 10 Euro. Or 10 USD.

Later I continued this traditional thing. I really appreciate keeping it alive.

In TV are typically movies with Bud Spencer & Terence Hill. I grew up with those TV heros. Nostalgia. I sometimes watch them.

I like the movies with Terence Hill also. Lucky Luke, Renegade, ... but also the Western movies with both of them and "2 wie Pech und Schwefel". I really don't know why they run on TV on Eastern.

Now I am alone and have only the memories.

What is traditional where you live and where do you live? How did your parents celebrate Eastern with you?

As a child we dyed eggs, then my mother would hide them around the house for us to find. On Sunday we went to church then came home and received our Easter baskets and searched for the hidden eggs.

I haven't been to church since I was 12, and my wife was never Christian, but each year she gives me some chocolate carrots.

Go to Mass in the morning, then we go to my parents' house and spend the day there. The kids will do an Easter egg hunt and then my dad and I make an Easter frittata. I wrote a MyTake with the recipe a couple of years ago; it's linked here...

I’m in Europe too, so a lot feels familiar 😊
We also color and hide hard‑boiled eggs, plus chocolate bunnies and little “nests” with candy. As a kid, my parents made an egg hunt in our garden, then big family lunch, and always some classic movies on TV.

Now I mostly celebrate by watching feel‑good films (sometimes old Westerns too), calling family, and enjoying those cozy nostalgic vibes 💛🐣

Easter Sunday is and was always my favorite holiday by a million miles. We live in the USA but for my family it is like Christmas only in far better weather and without the blaring in your face intensity.

In our family growing up it was a huge holiday. My mother decorated the house. She had a little Easter village with Bunny figurines, she had a wreath on the front door with an Easter there - flowers and colored eggs and a couple of Bunny figures, and suchlike.

We would get up and look for the Easter baskets that the Bunny had hidden. These had always been hand made by my mother and were wrapped in colored celophane with a big chocolate bunny in the center - in the Bicentennial year of 1976, I still remember this, it was "Peter Patriot." The Bunny also brought us a few wrapped presents as well - and again these were all hidden all over the house and we hand to hunt for them.

Then we would go to church - which to be fair as little kids we were not all that keen on. Then to my mother's parent's house for brunch and --- guess what? ------ the Easter Bunny happened to have visited there and we got another smaller basket and a couple more presents.

Then after that to my Dad's parent's house where there was a huge dinner party - probably 60 or so people, friends and cousins - that would go fairly late into the evening.

On top of all that, in those days the public schools actually gave you an Easter break that ran from Good Friday through the whole week after Easter Sunday. So you got home late on Easter night but knowing that you had a whole week ahead of you to do whatever you want. The weather was finally - we lived in Michigan - turning warm after a long winter and as little kids we were out to run and play all day. When I was I high school, my friends and I would make day trips to local parks and such.

Suffice to say I have nothing but fond memories and my girlfriend and I do essentially the same things with our own children. Plus we have the extra advantage of living in the Washington, DC area so the weather is generally even better than it was in Michigan.

(We also added our own tradition of driving across the Chesapeake Bay bridge - and then back across - "breaking the seal on beach season" we call it - and then going to Annapolis to walk around and maybe take a bay cruise. Then we go to her parent's for a dinner party.)

As I say, it is all the fun of Christmas but without the blaring in your face television commercials, the lousy cold weather, and the garish colors. (I much prefer Easter pastels to Christmas primary colors.)

So as far as I am concerned we can dispense with all the other holidays. As to my kids, (ages, 9,8, and 6) I have to admit that seeing their excitement at any of the holidays warms my heart - but I still have to admit that when I think back, even to my own surprise, it is the Easters that I get the most sentimental about.

Most such as walking to church barefoot, climbing mountains carrying a bowl of water, and making straw dolls to lay to rest in fields died out a few generations ago. One that's made a recent revival is egg clapping where kids go house to house clapping and singing rhymes for eggs.

When I was a kid, my parents would have an Easter basket filled with a chocolate bunny, a small toy, some jellybeans - they would say the Easter bunny brought it.

I'd get a new outfit and an Easter type hat and I would where it when we would go to church.

Then we'd have Easter dinner - usually ham.

As a kid, Easter meant I'm going to search for chocolate starfish, eggs, fishes and chicken hidden in the flat by my parents, sometimes they even were hidden in the backyard.

As a teen, Easter meant nothing at all.

As an early adult, Easter meant we were going to stash chocolate for my daughter to find.

As of now, Easter means nothing at all.

I was raised in a Catholic family, though I no longer practice.

Growing up. my family had a typical Easter Sunday. Go to church, go to a restaurant for brunch afterward, then back home where the kids searched for Easter baskets full of candy that my father hid the night before.

We used to paint the eggs and go Easter egg hunting. It was so fun as a kid. I think the one with the most eggs won a prize if I'm not mistaken or the one who found the golden egg. I can't remember.
