Why do single mothers struggle so much more than single fathers when it comes to raising children?

BigDog1989 Now I see your confusion. That study does not compare apples to apples. It is against the Law in the US to pay a women less for the same job. Use common sense if you could pay a women less for the same job why wouldn't every company just hire women to save money?

Bigdog1989 It's not. The study you are referencing examine all fields and does not compare women and men in the same fields. Women don't typically go into labor intensive jobs that pay a lot, Alaskan Fishermen, Construction, Engineering etc, they typically go into more people driven fields that pay less social works, etc. In fact when you line up women in those aforementioned fields they actually get paid slightly more than men and because of affirmative action are more likely to be hired.

Where I live the typical single mother is not educated (a number don't even have high school diplomas), are quite often living on welfare or other government supports, and usually has multiple men coming in and out of the household. Drug abuse is VERY common in this region among the lowest working and welfare ranks of society.

As an old neighbor said of the house I sold to developers 2 years ago - they split it into a rental - one of the renters is a "single mother with 6 kids, 1 of every color". This is VERY common among single mothers - far more than a successful single mother.

Such a setting is NOT a good situation to raise upstanding or successful offspring.

Kids learn that there is no point to get an education or decent job - they'll just go on welfare themselves as adults. As the men who assoicate with such women are more often NOT decent folk than law-obeying the kids have BAD role models growing up. Boys learn that crime is "profitable" - girls learn that having multiple men is acceptable.

Studies have shown and as a prosecutor I've seen it first hand, that a lot of single mothers are less likely to have a substantial income to comfortably raise children, even with child support. Also, they are less selective with the type of man they have in their home, while single father's are more selective with who might be their child's/children's "other" mother. Way back in the 80's, a show, Murphy Brown and society in general, were glorifying single motherhood, even in an episode, when Murphy made a conscious decision to have a child she would raise on her own. V. P Dan Quale, said it's an irresponsible message to send and glorify. "If you wanna see the reality of single motherhood, look at the inner city". Of course the left crucified him but, as we can ALL see, truer words were never spoken.

Economics. Working in the courts, the single dads I see who get custody tend to have far more financial assets than the average single mother does.

It is mostly simple economics. The woman gets knocked up and the father does not want to take responsibility. Even if she gets the court to impose some kind of child support he usually pays the first month and then tha chase is on The kid starts life behind the 8 ball and never really catches up.

Because in general men are usually the disciplinarians and women tend to be the nurturerers. Fathers just have a way of putting the fear of God into you to keep you honest and on the straight and narrow. Mothers tend to let you know your loved deeply and fathers tend to teach you to respect yourself and instill in you sense of worth. You can't respect others if you don't respect yourself first. This is why so many women without father's fair so badly. She has no sense of self worth because she never had a father to instill that in her.

Their emotions are their problem.
Mothers are so weak in terms of setting up boundaries for their children. Also often they are just to stupid to understand that some of their actions and good will harm the child.

They tend to prioritize good feeling/vibes/reaction higher than necessary strong/critival/harsh restrictions.
Most think not on the long run.
