On the rare occasions we went out to eat, we could usually get a soda (maybe not before age 5 or 6 - I can't really remember those details). At home, it was water, maybe lemonade, occasionally juice, or sometimes Kool-Aid, but rarely soda. Soda was mostly for events - weddings, family reunions, etc.
And appetizers? I didn't taste an appetizer until I was in my mid-teens. LOL. I'm not complaining - I ate just fine - but appetizers were an extravagance that my parents weren't looking to pay for. Occasionally we'd get to order dessert, though.
Water. We weren't allowed soda in the house most of the time because it rots teeth, causes obesity, causes diabetes, causes stomach ulcers and is addictive.
From what I've seen of most soda families is that they are generally neglectful of their kids and will allow them to be obese, that's not love its child cruelty.
We were both. Or tea, even. I prefer water-- but often the city/town where we lived had terrible drinking water that could still be tasted after it's filtered.
I just never liked soda, so it has always been water by choice.

I grew up with beer and vodka because my mother thought that water and sodas were for fannies.
We had a water bottle that used to stay in the refrigerator. Sometimes in the summer my mother would make KoolAid for us.
we had both...
can't go a day in Texas without drinking water
Just water here. I never had pop/soda as a child.
Water fruit punch Pepsi and welches grape juice etc. etc.
Soda. In hindsight it was very stupid to drink it in place of water. Especially as a kid
No. It was an unhealthier one.
I'm not depressed about it. But yeah who we are is largely determined by what we eat and I don't know... I feel like I can't lose my belly fat. I wonder if it's cus of drinking soda for years
I mean no matter how hard I've tried, the belly fat won't go away. It's like it's stuck there
I think it was water and iced tea...
