When you were a kid, did your parents make whatever you wanted to eat or did you eat whatever your parents made?

When i was a kid, i ate what was made or i didn’t eat. As a teen, it was a little different. If i didn’t want what was made, i was free to make something for myself.
I hear so many parents asking their kids what they want for dinner now and negotiating with them to eat more than sugary cereal and snacks all day everyday. It’s rampant in the media too. They’ve convinced you that giving your kids everything they want on demand is normal. That nobody denies their children anything. It’s really just the next level of consumerism; planned, i assure you.
Certainly it’s also a factor in the worsening sense of entitlement among young people. When you spend your entire life getting exactly what you want exactly when you want it, or your parents apologize and grovel for failing you, there’s no way you become an adult with a reasonable sense about what you deserve and how the world works.
So tell us, did your parents bend over backwards to make you whatever you wanted to eat? Or did you have to eat what was put in front of you or go hungry?
