They were 12 years old, so yeah. Although it might not have been a big deal to them at that age. They might not have even seen it on TV, but they probably heard about it.
I was 9 years old when JFK was assassinated and I remember hearing about it and seeing people's reactions when the news broke.
They would be 7. Not 12.
Oops. LOL
At that age, the only way you would know something important happened would be from the reactions of those around you.
Not exactly what happened but you should remember how your parents and teachers reacted to it.
