What do you remember about 9/11/01 if you were alive then?

I was in 5th grade coming back from Gym Class when the teachers turned on the TV and we watched it all day. My school didn't shut down but many parents still picked up kids.

I was on the way home from school (Year 6) and we went to a family friend's house to pick up my birthday present (yep, 9/11 is my b-day). Mum was chatting to her friend for a few minutes. When we got home, I went to put the TV on for cartoons, but they were showing the news. I thought it was some movie that over-ran. Both the BBC and ITV were showing the footage, but I was confused about why. So I went up to my room and played video games until we went out for dinner.

My little niece was born Aug 2, 2001 so that makes her age 22, so this date is remembered and in the living room was my sister, mom, myself, my sister holding my little niece. Also, Sept 12th is my sister's birthday she was born 1969, so tomorrow she turns age 54.

My school never showed it on the news, I was in the 3rd grade and I just remember my mom showing up in the middle of class to pick me up, hugging me really tight and asking me if I wanted to go to McDonald’s with my brother. I was happy for any excuse to get out of class and McDonald’s was my favorite so I said yes. We had lunch, went back to school, then went home. My parents never showed me what happened, and I didn’t learn about it until the following year.

i was in school aaand... the day went by as normal. I didn't know what was the big deal but I was an idiot. :) Aaaand since the day went as normal, i paid no attention to it. I know I was sitting in class being the perfect angel and wasn't really discussed that day.

I was 5 years old sitting in kindergarten class when news that the Twin Towers and the Pentagon were hit by planes. We didn’t know what was going on and our teacher stopped class and prayed for those. My mom was 7 months pregnant with my sister and she wasn’t feeling well that day. My dad told her to turn the news on and she was in shock. When I got home, Mom grabbed hold of me, but I couldn’t fit in her lap because her belly was so big.

I was working as a lab engineer at a high tech company. When I heard about this I got a TV we had on a cart that we used for training videos and made an antenna out of paper clips and other stuff and taped it to the window. I put the news on and within minutes the whole lab was filled with people watching in disbelief as the towers came down.

I remember thinking yes we’re going to war. Sad day but honestly a lot of us were excited. Camp LeJeune, one of the many homes of the U tied States Marines. I was 23 at the time. W in a few hours everything was packed, waiting to see if order came down the pipeline about us being shipped out. Thinking finally after all theses years of training. Are we going to actually get to put it into use now?
