22 years later. What do you remember from September 11, 2001 and what were you doing?

For those of you who were too young or weren’t even born yet, this question isn’t for you, unless you wanna explain what you were taught. That’s totally fine. Wow that sounded harsh.

I didn’t wanna express my feelings and I’m so glad this day is over but it’s important to remember 9/11. I tried my best to fight back tears. I felt emotional inside and I didn’t wanna show it but I didn’t cry until I got home from work. Can’t believe it’s been 22 years since this tragic day happened. We talked about this to our students at my job today. It’s important that kids and teens learn about this. I was 11, two months away of turning 12. We we’re getting ready for school and we had NO idea about this until later. My mom was already at work and so is my dad. My brother was 17. I don’t remember if I went to my neighbors house to wait until the bus, I probably did, I don’t remember. Our bus driver in assistant was very quiet and was listening to the radio and one of those kids to be quiet so they can listen. We had no idea what was going on. I remember the teachers looks sad and I don’t remember if they showed us on the TV at school or not or saw it on the news later, but I do remember seeing it later on and was so shocked. It was really scary and made me terrified of going on an airplane. That’s all I remember because I don’t remember much. Didn’t really understand the whole thing since I was just a kid. It was the most terrorizing and heartbreaking day. RIP to all the victims who lost their lives and my biggest condolences to the families that lost their loved ones that day.

Well, I was close by as I work in Washington, DC and live in the Virginia suburb of Falls Church. So it was pretty immediate.

My office at that time was an interior office and had no windows, but we were in a building that you could look down the Potomac and see the Pentagon. I remember not having the television on but my boss came in and told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center.

Needless to say, that surprised me, to say the least and at first we were not sure if it just an accident. Anyhow, we went into my boss's office - which had windows - and began to watch the coverage. We saw the second plane crash and - seeing as we worked in an organization that dealt in foreign policy issues, we were then sure at that moment what was happening.

Then the news announced that the Pentagon had been hit. The funny part was that, at first, we did not think to look out the windows. (By the way, I should add that we were on the 8th floor of our building of 10 floors.)

Eventually, after a few minutes, we thought to look out the window and we saw tons of smoke billowing out of the Pentagon. It was bad.

Shortly after that, they closed our offices and told everyone to head home. For my part, knowing what traffic would be like, I opted to stay in the office for another few hours.

By the time I left, traffic had cleared out and I took my normal route home, which included going down Rt. 395 to 110 to 66. So it literally took me right past the Pentagon. The hit was on the opposite side so I drove right by. I could still see the smoke but otherwise, it all looked deceptively normal - other than there being, unusually, no traffic.

So I got home in about 30 minutes and that was it. I spent the rest of the day watching the news and went to work like normal the next day. It was all strangely normal, but you knew that things were never going to the same.

Oh, and as I mentioned, I worked on foreign policy issues and it turned out that I and several of my colleagues were targeted - no joke - by an Afghan terrorist group and so we had to be briefed by the FBI.

Quite a time.

Laughing about it. To be fair, still laugh about it.

Unknown guys, allegedly hijack billions worth of plane to fly over the most watch airspace in the world, only to fly into a couple of buildings; collapsing three. Then millions of Iraqi's and Afghans, who had nothing to do with it, die in the backlash.

You have to laugh at Americans. Overreaction is their only only reaction. It's a neurotic country with main character syndrome.

I was in my 4th grade class and my teacher turned on the tv and I remembered seeing the live news on the tv recording the chaos as I look over at my teacher in shock covering her face with both her hands.




As a little kid I knew it was bad but didn’t truly see how significant it was to our nation until know looking back at it as a grown man

I was practicing "metallica-enter sandman" on my guitar, playing loud and than i saw on tv the breaking news on cnn the deadly crash and i was like "is this for real?" Seemed like i hollywood movie for me but than i realized that this is real and i was just shocked and prayed for people to be saved, i just couldn't continue watching and my mind couldn't take it that when the buildings have collapsed there was people inside...

I was on a Caribbean cruise when it happened. I am pretty sure I stood there with my mouth open, wondering what the hell?

For those who remember it's definitely a day that will live in infamy but united all Americans hence the term "we will never forget "
