I think Tim is being a bit dramatic here with some of the things. But I can agree with the birthday thing. It was a bigger deal for me when I was a kid.

But when I was a kid, I didn't care if my parents didn't know other things about me. And I actually preferred if they weren't so involved in my school life & meeting my teachers. It made me be able to feel more independent & like I didn't need monitoring in order to behave well.

I also understood that my dad (at the time) was very very busy with work so he had a lot on his mind.

Fortunately one was born on Thanksgiving, one was born on Memorial Day and my wife was born on Labor day. My youngest was born on a random day in April.

Last year I wished my oldest son happy birthday on the wrong day. He's 29. I've always mixed up the days of my oldest 2 kids.
