At what age did you expect your child to stop crying when told to stop?

Why do you want the kid to stop to cry? Kids cry when the emotions are too overwhelming to keep them inside.

Kids cry when they feel pain, are emotionally hurt, scared, or confused, and many other more or less obvious reasons. Telling a kid to stop crying is denying the emotions they feel. And it's a very dangerous thing to do. Because you are damaging the bond kid has with their emotions. The bigger the damage, the easier such a person is to manipulate, because they don't believe their feelings or impressions.

If you think your kid is trying to force you to do something (but first you have to be sure it's not something different) then you can try to leave your kid alone (in the room i. e.) and give them a chance to calm down.

But never ever tell a kid to stop crying.

I hush them comfort but I don't demand them to stop. Crying has a purpose as a parent it's our jobs to find out what is wrong.

If it's a tantrum then I let them cry it out and make it clear though I am sorry they are upset whatever I am asking of them or denying will remain the same.

You should be able to get them to stop crying by taking care of whatever the reason is for them crying, by the time they are 2 years old. That usually doesn't involve telling them to stop crying. Rather, it usually requires something positive, like feeding them when they are hungry, or changing their diaper when they are wet, or finding out why they are angry and resolving that.

If you mean like a "walk it off" or "rub some dirt on it" sort of thing, then probably around ten. I am assuming you mean in sports or something along those lines and not in a situation they are actually distressed.

Telling them to “Stop Crying” will most likely not make them stop and will only keep the issue unresolved and raise the distance between you two …

There’s something else to do depending on the situation, age and the reason of crying.

Because if the tears were caused by sadness, fear, anger, frustration, disappointment and so on, they could be addressed by parents differently other than wanting the child to stop.

If crying is a random tantrum outburst, then distract their attention by something fun, weird or exciting. I have tried it with my much younger cousins and works perfectly, they don’t even remember they were crying seconds ago.

If the crying for attention won’t stop, ignoring might be the better thing to do. They’ll cry and get tired and will eventually stop, they’ll also learn that crying for attention doesn’t gain us any extra attention and if we want something to happen, we need to communicate like two equal human beings, instead of crying.

before i understood crying, i expected that, i would tell a lover, are you sad for something i did? if not, i would say, i see your sad now you can stop but when she would continue i realized that the idea in alice wonderland is not just fiction it referred to real sadness can't stop.

I would never expect that. Everyone cries sometimes. It's not a big deal. I'll comfort my kids anytime they cry even if they are grown
