Is it normal for some people to hang out with their own race?

I don’t mean to make it into about race but most people mostly hang with their own race. Not that it’s bad or anything.
One time I was hanging out with my best friends and they’re both Hispanic. They each invited their siblings and it was the five of us, four Hispanics (two latinos/two Latinas) and me, plain old white girl.
I couldn’t help but feeling left out while the four of them spoke Spanish to each other. They did include me when we all danced and chit chat. I took selfies with my besties but most of the time they and their cousins took pictures with each other a lot. They all had Spanish conversations and I felt left out because I was the only one that didn’t speak Spanish even though the besties taught me some. I didn’t say anything so I just let it go. Has this happened to you?

i've never really thought about it. i have friends of all races and don't even think about that when hanging out. kinda strange. and i certainly wouldn't make anyone feel left out.

they were kinda rude to make you feel awkward and left out while they spoke Spanish. i wouldn't want one of my friends who i invited to hang out with to feel left out like that.

it sounds to me like they (cousins) don't really know you so they kind of kept their distance and did what was easiest for them, even if they came off as rude. although, they did include you while while dancing and talking which is good. so i wouldn't take this too harshly. they probably didn't even realize it.

It’s not normal or ok to speak a language that not everyone present can understand. They should have spoken English as long as you were there. What they speak whenever they’re on their own doesn’t matter, but like in this case when you were there and they know you don’t speak Spanish then it’s not ok to speak it. That’s just rude, mean and socially incompetent.

Well, what was I supposed to do? Yell at them to speak English? No they’re just being themselves, but I do feel left out when they all spoke Spanish to each other and sometimes I felt a lot left out my best friend should’ve known better because you’re my best friend and they just didn’t care that I was the only one that can’t speak the language. When they were with their cousins, they mostly hung out with each other, took photos but my best friends took photos with me separate with them.

I mean I’m not saying it’s bad, it seems segregated. When I hang with my white friends I feel more included because well I’m white. I do have friends other races and I don’t care what color someone is. As long as they’re a good person, then so what? I felt left out when my friends and their cousins sat together and spoke Spanish and didn’t even apologize for leaving me out. They took photos together. My two best friends took a photo with me but when it’s their cousins, I feel left out.

Then you don’t understand. You probably only hang out with your own race. My besties and their cousins were rude because they know I’m the only one that doesn’t speak Spanish and they all had Spanish conversations right in front of me and took selfies and leaving me out. Well my two besties only took two which is nice but I still felt left out. I’m the only one that’s white and doesn’t speak Spanish.
