Can a person descend into madness from learning the truth?

I'm asking this question because I was wondering can a person go mad from revelation in real life or not.

No, not on that alone. If someone goes mad from something like that, then they are very unstable in the first place. Even then it's pretty doubtful.

Even if a person doesn't want to know the truth about something, learning the truth should not send them over the edge. They could have a strong temporary reaction, but that is not "going mad".

I should say that "going mad" is an old term for a serious mental illness like full blown schizophrenia.

Depends on how much the truth conflicts with their worldview and how much that worldview relates to their identity and way of life.
