Is it weird I’m not allowed to eat food at my mothers house?

I live at @ home and I’m an adult who lives at home and my parents have 4 little kids and my step dad doesn’t allow me to eat any of the food in the house.

I also buy my own food as I have a different diet to and I’ve always have bought my own food but recently someone told me that’s weird that they hide items like salt in the room away from me

My mother and I pay the rent. My mother the one who pays the bills my step father. doesn’t have a job or help with rent or food but he does the cooking

But he doesn’t let me eat anything like bread eggs or water or salt or seasonings. They often hide them in the room. away from me.

know it’s probably because of my age but I seen others my age get cooked for by their parents or even grandparents.

Yea it’s time for you to get out of there and live your life elsewhere , that is sadly a toxic environment you are living in , I could see if you weren’t working and not contributing to the home but the fact that you are, and you are still being treated that way? , is messed up. Do you have any friends that you could possibly move in with or get a place together with? That is honestly your best bet , to get yourself out of that house, your Mom and Step Dad are set in their ways for whatever reason , so if I was you? That is weird, definitely not normal. Your step-dad is a controller. He most likely views you and your kids as a threat to his relationship with your mother, doesn't approve of you as a single mom, and you are not his daughter. Therefore, he tries to control things, with the expectation that will eventually cause you to leave.

Maybe your mother can help change things, if you have a mother-daughter talk about it.

Yes, it is really weird. I mean, I don't even work, and I still get fed food by my parents or make myself something. Sometimes we might have a certain snack we call our own and that's fine with me. But my parents never tell me I cannot eat food that we have. I'd say go live with 2 of your friends if they share an apartment or something like that.

I understand buying your own food but for them to hide shit obviously your stepfather don't care for you. Though your mother allows it so she isn't the best person since she doesn't even know how to communicate normally to her own daughter to make things less weird. I would probably move out if they are being stingy and weird like that.

Yes that is very strange behaviour. I would go as far as also saying it is unhealthy behaviour. I suggest you try to move somewhere else. Your step father sounds like a dangerous control freak and I wouldn’t like to imagine the coercive behaviour he uses to manipulate your mother.

You should test his reaction when you tell him that you don’t mind if he eats any of your food. Actually, start actively offering him things. Will you try it and let me know how it went?

Even at 30 my parents cook, buy, and send me away with food whenever I come home.
