Why some people prefer to be blissfully ignorant?

I'm asking this question because I'm curious about why some people would prefer to be blissfully ignorant than learning truth.

You could answer this by looking up the definition of "bliss." Why spend your one chance at life in abject despair when you can instead believe something like a magic sky daddy that will make everything right?
