Meaning a laugh that you have when you don’t find something genuinely funny, but rather laugh because social norma dictate laughter is the appropriate response to whatever was said?

I have a social smile, but I only laugh if I really think something is funny. My problem is I have such a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor that I have to be careful NOT to laugh when it wouldn't be appropriate. But, you better believe I burst out laughing later when I am by myself.
No, not like a “burst out laughing” genuine laugh but like a “oh, they want this to be funny, I should laugh so they don’t feel bad”
That's why I have a social smile, bc I really have no control over my laughter once it starts. I have ended up having an entire room of people start laughing bc of my laughter when they don't even know what it's about. So, I don't dare laugh in an insincere way 'cause it's gonna become very real very quickly. That's just the way my mind works... I will find it hilarious that anyone thinks whatever was said or done needs a fake reaction and that sets me off, often inappropriately. Therefore, for politeness sake, I have cultivated a social smile. I really don't want to hurt feelings just bc I cannot contain myself.
I just give the sarcastic "HA" to those but in reality I laugh like a hyena
@leahzrc That's great! I think I will try to cultivate the "HA" reaction for politeness sake. Bc, like you, my real laugh is full-throated and belly-shaking and can be heard down the block. And, I often suffer from spaghetti-spine syndrome and need assistance to remain on my feet! Boy would I like to be at a party with you...
lmao yes it's the best and we should party
No, not that I am aware of.
