What happens to ex stepparents after divorce?

Do they typically disown and throw away the stepchildren? It reminds me of the parents who disown their children for being gay. Sounds too immoral, and perverted, for a civilized society for children to be thrown away.

I guess it depends on how involved they were in their step children’s lives. If they’ve been involved for many years and they have a good relationship with the kids, then usually they stay in contact. But if they haven’t been involved much or don’t have a good connection with the kids, then they likely won’t stay in contact.
