How do you usually celebrate your birthday?

Go out to dinner or on a short vacation with my wife.

She usually surprises me with something really thoughtful. Like, a couple years ago, we went to Santa Rosa, CA for a couple of days and she bought me a ride on a Steerman bi-plane. The pilot did aerobatics. She knew that had been on my bucket list since I was a kid.

We had been to Santa Rose for my birthday the year before to go to Safari West, and had seen the airport that advertised airplane rides.

Last year, she took me to a place that makes sculptures that has a bunch of dinosaur sculptures in a woods on their property. Then we had a really good dinner at a Caribbean restaurant.

Last year, we went to Eureka and Arcata, CA., toured the Avenue of the Giants redwoods, Fern Canyon, and enjoyed the ocean for her birthday.

Of course, we also give each other cards.

I buy myself something - usually it's a little expensive, but something I have been putting off. I also plan a dinner meetup at one of my favorite restaurants. I try to do several restaurants that give the free dinner (or at least really good discounts) for the month, too.

We usually do my birthday and Easter (together) with the family.

Something chill. This year I had my family over for lunch and we did a puzzle and ate cake. After they left my boyfriend made me my favourite wings for dinner, we had a few drinks, finished the puzzle and played some games together. Then I sobbed into his arms because it was my first birthday without a card from my uncle. Beautiful day 😂

I usually figure out what I want to do and celebrate for a week. Last year was Europe & D. C, the year before that was Jeju, year before that was Suwon & Boston.

I usually just tell my friends what we’re doing and if we’re doing anything months or sometimes a year beforehand and we celebrate.

I was 2 years old when I got a cat.
I was 14 years old when he died.
And by "died" I mean I had to personally give the vet permission to euthanise him.
And by "14 years old" I mean literally my 14th birthday. That was my birthday present: ending my best friend's suffering.

That was around 26 years ago. I've not done birthdays since then. Just remembered the feline family I've lost along the way.
